The following is a collection of online CEU opportunities for midwives. If you find an online course that you think should be added to this list, please send us an email with the link!

Big Babies & GDM

"Has your client ever been told that their baby is getting too big at the end of pregnancy?  This class has everything you need to learn the truth about suspected big babies. We will also cover the most recent evidence on gestational diabetes."

The 2-hour class is taught by Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, founder of Evidence Based Birth®. It is worth 3 contact hours for professionals like nurse midwives, certified professional midwives, nurses, doulas, and childbirth educators. This class has been approved for 0.3 ACNM CEUs for nurse midwives. It can also be used for the NARM Midwifery Bridge Certificate (Category 1, recognizing and responding to complications of pregnancy.)

Cultural Competency

"This course meets the new requirement of NARM for all CPMs and CPM applicants to take a course on Cultural Competency. The course will focus on reducing child mortality and reducing maternal mortality through the culturally sensitive and respectful care of women during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the entire childbearing season."

PROM, GBS & Newborn Procedures

“In this presentation, we will take an in-depth look at the research evidence on three topics: 1) labor induction for birthing people who experience term PROM, 2) antibiotic use versus alternative treatments for Group B Strep, and 3) newborn procedures for term infants during the “golden hour.”

We will cover the epidemiology, history, guidelines, and research on interventions related to these topics, as well as the controversies, limitations and strengths of the available evidence. After attending this class, you will walk away with confidence in your ability to talk with clients about the potential harms and benefits of labor induction versus waiting for spontaneous labor in PROM, antibiotics for Group B strep, and at least 5 newborn procedures that commonly occur during the golden hour.”

Failure to Progress

“Failure to Progress is one of the top causes of Cesareans in first time birthing people. But in reality, “failure to progress” is a vague diagnosis that has been based on Friedman’s Curve– an outdated graph from the 1950s that provided thresholds to identify normal and abnormal labors.

If more healthcare providers stopped using Friedman’s Curve and learned the new, evidence-based definitions of normal and abnormal labor, we could see a drastic decrease in the overall Cesarean rate.”
